Joe Overstreet Road and Boat Ramp
City: Osceola County
GPS: N27 56.223 W81 13.553
Joe Overstreet Road is approximately 5 miles and runs from Canoe Creek road west and dead ends at the public boat ramps for Lake Kissimmee. You can find various subjects along this road many will to sit and pose on a fence post as you fire away from the car. The key here is to go slow, look & listen.
About 4 miles down the road you will see a pond on your left, this is called Overstreet pond and typically is an afternoon spot. Osprey, Eagles and various other waders are typical subjects here.
Continuing on Overstreet Road you will reach the end, which will leave you looking at the boat ramps and Lake Kissimmee. There is a field and marsh area to area to the right. To the left you will see the campground and airboat areas. This area should be explored. There are too many species to list that you could encounter here. The more popular or frequent are the Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owls, Snail Kites, Sandhill Cranes, almost any species of wader, and occasionally a Whooping Crane.
There are also various rookeries and photographic opportunities on Lake Kissimmee itself. I conduct personalized tours on all the lakes in central Florida, please contact me if interested.
Directions: Joe Overstreet Road runs directly off Canoe Creek Road Co Hwy 523 approximately 20 miles from St. Cloud. This will be a right hand turn when coming from St. Cloud.
